Support Pope Francis and His Call to End Climate Change. Encourage Him to Oppose the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Pope Francis

We the undersigned support Pope Francis and his call to both end climate change and to transition away from fossil fuels.

We agree with his statement that “the climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all” and that “solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system,” and that the earth’s warming “is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases released mainly as a result of human activity.”

We also strongly agree with the Pope’s statement that this “problem is aggravated by a model of development based on the intensive use of fossil fuels, which is at the heart of the worldwide energy system” and we respectfully ask Pope Francis to urge our U.S. Senators and Representatives to oppose construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which will only further contribute to global warming and the deterioration of our planet.

We the undersigned agree that “there is an urgent need to develop policies so that, in the next few years, the emission of carbon dioxide and other highly polluting gases can be drastically reduced…substituting for fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy.”

Climate change threatens not only our future, but also that of generations to come, and we commend the Pope for taking such a courageous and noteworthy stand.
