Oregon Campaign Workers Deserve a Fair Contract NOW!

FuturePAC

On September 28th, 2018, the campaign staff for State Representative Teresa Alonso Leon’s re-election campaign unanimously agreed to form a union. Representative Alonso Leon then recognized her workers on October 10th, 2018. Now, these workers are attempting to negotiate with their employer but are being stalled at every juncture in a clear bad faith attempt to run out the clock on bargaining.

Although they committed to increased bargaining sessions after the election, management now claims to have no availability to meet for two weeks after the election. The only bargaining date they have proposed is on the day that campaign staff will be laid off.

To stall bargaining, management has cancelled sessions less than 5 minutes before their start time and added calendar holds on every available hour until the end of the year. Even if management were unable to bargain due to poor health or lack of availability, in these situations, it is common practice to empower others to bargain on their behalf.

We know that Representative Alonso Leon would not compromise her pro-union values unless she felt pressured or required to by more powerful entities. Given that FuturePAC facilitates hiring of all House Democrat campaign staff and supervises them directly, in addition to the fact that Representative Alonso Leon required FuturePAC’s approval before the voluntary recognition letter was signed, their involvement in this process is unquestionable.

If Oregon Democrats, FuturePAC, and House Democratic Leaders want us to believe they stand with workers, they need to make that known now. Silence is not just complicit, it is union busting.

Tell FuturePAC and Democratic Party Leaders: publicly support campaign workers and ensure that Representative Alonso Leon’s staff can meet with management two times prior to November 20th, 2018 for at least five hours each session.

After winning victories across our state last week, the least Oregon’s campaign workers deserve is a fair contract. It’s time for Oregon Democrats to stand with workers.

Sign below to demand FuturePAC and Democratic Party Leaders urge management to bargain with Oregon’s first unionized campaign workers so that they can reach a fair contract before November 20th.
