Take action: Don’t let the GOP derail protections for workers

Republicans in the House and Senate

Over 100,000 people, many from the Daily Kos community, recently called on President Obama to act quickly to implement critical overtime reforms that will help millions of American workers.

The White House issued an official response and also took swift action. The Department of Labor submitted the new overtime rule to the Office of Management and Budget—the final step in the process of issuing a new rule. The rule would ensure that salaried workers who should be entitled to overtime pay get that compensation.

Unfortunately, Republicans are already pushing back. They introduced legislation in the House and Senate this week, aiming to block the Department of Labor from implementing this new rule.

Tell Republicans in the House and Senate: Get out of the way and let the Department of Labor update overtime protections to help millions of American workers.

Do not push forward with the misleadingly-named “Protecting Workplace Advancement and Opportunity Act,” your legislation pushing back on this common-sense update to our overtime regulations.

The new overtime rule, which would raise the overtime salary threshold from $23,660 to $50,440, strengthens the right of 13.5 million additional workers to receive overtime pay and the right to earn a fair living.

I support that rule, and want to see more Americans fairly compensated.
