Take Action to End Exploitation at LA's port

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti

Ports workers and community want to send a clear message to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti that the time to take action is now!

All port workers want a bright future: the wages worked so hard for, to be recognized as employees worthy of dignity, to not remain forgotten while experiencing Jim Crow racism and intolerable sharecropping conditions at our jobs. Just like Dr.King, we believe that all labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance..

We honor the sacrifice and legacy of civil rights marchers in places like Selma by standing with port drivers and warehouse workers. These workers continue fighting similar injustices taking place on City-owned property, from racial discrimination to wage theft and exploitation, while the City continues to look the other way, allowing lawbreaking companies to operate at our Port.

The City has both the power and the moral obligation to put a stop to modern-day Jim Crow racism and sharecropping in its backyard. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., “The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.” We call upon you to end the silence and take action to end the lawbreaking on City property.
