Take the next step in the New Deal

U.S. Senate

Senators Bernie Sanders (VT), Elizabeth Warren (MA), Jeff Merkley (OR), Kamala Harris (CA), Ed Markey (MA), Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), Cory Booker (NJ), Brian Schatz (HI), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Mazie Hirono (HI), Tom Udall (NM), Al Franken (MN), Martin Heinrich (NM), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), and Pat Leahy (VT) are introducing a bill to expand Medicare that will make the most popular and efficient health care program in the U.S. available to everyone.

In the wake of Republicans attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act and kick tens of millions of people off of their health care, it’s time to take a the next step in the New Deal, and guarantee health care as a human right.

Medicare is the most popular and efficient health care program in the U.S. And expanding Medicare to everyone is supported by a majority of Americans―including 41 percent of Republicans. I urge the U.S. Senate to pass the Medicare for Sll Act of 2017. When we do, we will finally take the next step in the New Deal's promise of economic security for America.
