Mitch McConnell just said that if he wins back the Senate majority next year, he'll do everything he can to stop President Biden from filling a Supreme Court seat.

Biden must act, right now. McConnell blocked President Obama's nominee in 2016, effectively handing Trump a crucial seat to fill. McConnell is committed to holding open any vacancies until he can win back a Republican majority in the Senate and ensure the next open seat is filled by another right-wing justice.

With 2022 midterm elections just around the corner, Biden's window to appoint a Supreme Court justice is quickly narrowing. He must urge Justice Breyer to retire so that he can quickly nominate a progressive justice who can fight for our democracy in the long term.

Decisions made in today's Court will have decades of consequences, whether on voting rights, abortion rights, or environmental protection.

The GOP is relying heavily on maintaining its ultra-conservative majority in the Supreme Court to roll back those basic protections—and lawmakers are working hard to smother out any possibility of progressive influence.

We can't risk having Breyer be replaced by a Republican-controlled Senate or a future Republican president. With a whopping six conservative judges and only three liberals, the current Supreme Court dangerously favors those who want to attack our democracy.

Given the current make-up of the Court, it's no exaggeration to say that our future is on the line. This is one of the only chances Biden will get to nominate someone who will fight for the future of our basic rights.
