Tell Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell to Put Cops on the Facebook Beat

Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Mitch McConnell

This week, the news that Facebook allowed the personal data of 50 million Americans to be scooped up without their consent rocked Washington -- and opened almost everyone's eyes to the idea that Facebook and Big Tech have far too much control over all of our lives and use their immense power in ways that endanger our democracy.

We know how to fix this. There are actions that the Federal Trade Commission can take right now to rein in Facebook's monopoly power, like forcing the company to spin off WhatsApp and Instagram to create competing social networks and even fining its top executives personally.

But we need your help.

Senators McConnell and Schumer are not moving fast enough to staff up the FTC with a new, bipartisan team of commissioners. The new commissioners have said they are inclined to take on Big Tech. But Senate leaders have failed to schedule a vote to confirm them.

Sign our petition telling McConnell and Schumer to put cops on the Facebook beat right now.

There's no time to waste in fixing America's Facebook problem. Together, we can keep the movement against monopoly going.

It's unacceptable that there are no cops on the beat during an emergency that touches millions of our lives. Even Mark Zuckerberg is now saying Facebook should be regulated, but no one is home at the FTC. Schedule a vote immediately to seat the bipartisan FTC commissioners so they can take on Facebook and protect our data and democracy.
