People’s Action builds the power of poor and working people in urban, rural, and suburban areas to win change through issue fights and elections. We are committed to ensuring equitable healthcare access to our community.

Our beloved Springfield community member, Mark Hall, is suffering from incredible pain because you won’t pay for the medicine he needs. Mark has ulcerative colitis, a condition that causes internal bleeding, inflammation of the intestines, a feeling of constant pain, and degradation of the tissue in his mouth. For a decade the medicine Remicade kept his symptoms under control.

But now, Cigna, even though Mark pays premiums to you, just as he has for years, you refuse to pay for the medicine that will keep him well. You are sticking him with bills for $10,000 every eight weeks. Mark and his wife Callie can’t pay.

Cigna, you can, and you must, pay for Mark’s medicine. It’s your job. You took in $5.4 billion in profit in 2021, so we know you can afford this.

This is not right. You are prioritizing your profits over the care Mark needs.

Cigna, we demand you pay for Remicade, the medicine Mark needs right now.
