Tell Congress: Don’t play with our lives
The Senate version of the ACA Repeal bill released at the end of June drastically cuts Medicaid, blocks Pacific Islanders from Palau, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands from buying healthcare, and skyrockets costs while slashing coverage. Healthcare is a human right. If the ACA is repealed, 1 in 10 AAPIs are at risk of losing access to coverage. That’s 2 million of us.
After weeks of secrecy with no public hearings and none scheduled, the Senate Republican leadership tried to sneak in a vote, but delayed it until after July 4th. Now it's up to us to make sure our Senators vote No on the ACA Repeal bill.
The ACA has made healthcare more affordable and accessible for our community. 8 out of 10 previously uninsured AAPIs are now eligible for insurance and financial assistance. Plus, the ACA provides 8 million AAPIs with free preventative care. We’re at risk of losing all of this if the Senate ACA Repeal bill passes, and we can’t let it go without a fight.
The Senate Republican Leadership never intended to write a healthcare bill. The ACA Repeal bill is a tax cut for their rich friends and campaign donors in the drug and insurance industries. They are going to do this by cutting healthcare for everybody else.
This bill is a coordinated attack on working and middle class communities and communities of color like ours.
Bruce Siegel, president of America’s Essential Hospitals said, “Let’s not mince words. This bill will close hospitals. It will hammer rural hospitals, it will close nursing homes. It will lead to disabled children not getting services. . . . People will die.”
We need to remind Congress that they work for us. Senate business needs to grind to a stop. Will you call to make sure your Senators vote No on the Senate ACA Repeal bill?
