Tell Congress: No ALEC-Backed Corporate Tax Cuts

U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate

The corporate-backed American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is behind the tax cuts and the Obamacare repeal that is being pushed through Congress. In fact, they literally wrote a playbook on repealing Obamacare.

In 2011 ALEC released a 32 page document titled, "The State Legislatures Guide to Repealing Obamacare." There's even a chapter titled, "How Can You, As a State Legislator, Stop Obamacare?" State legislators then used this playbook to block Obamacare implementation and "Reframe the Debate" around the individual mandate. Now the U.S. Senate tax bill includes (you guessed it) a repeal of the individual mandate.

This summer ALEC barnstormed the country to create a media echo chamber and lobby lawmakers at town halls on tax reform in key congressional districts. In September ALEC applauded Donald Trump's "tax reform discussions." This month ALEC joined Grover Norquist in signing a letter of support for the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act."

ALEC is also behind the elimination of a federal deduction for state and local taxes that will result in the shrinking of safety-net programs for those in need. All of this in exchange for a corporate tax giveaway and tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.
