The government shutdown that began on December 21 has real-world consequences.
More than 400,000 federal employees must work without getting paid, and more than 300,000 can't work at all. Valuable agencies and government services, including the Food and Drug Administration, the National Park Service and the Internal Revenue Service, will continue to grind to a halt. Retirees and all American taxpayers depend on federal employees. It's time for this stalemate to end.
We urge you to approve legislation that will end the shutdown and pay all federal employees immediately afterwards.
