Tell Danbury Mayor & City Council: It's time to fully fund Danbury Public Schools!

Danbury Mayor and Danbury City Council

Danbury Public Schools struggle with overcrowding, lack of space, and lack of funding. We have close to 12,000 students and the lowest per-pupil spending in Connecticut. A strong public education system is key to a thriving society - and that’s why we need public education to be properly funded!

The Danbury Board of Education Proposed Budget was approved in February by the Danbury BOE and is on the Mayor's desk. Next, the full city budget will be presented to the City Council in April.

ADD YOUR NAME below and demand that Danbury Mayor Cavo and Danbury City Council approve and fully fund the BOE-approved Danbury Public Schools Education Budget for 2021-22

Over the past 10 years, the BOE-approved budget requests for school funding have not been met by the City Council. This has resulted in a net loss of $48 million of requested funding, which has resulted in cuts to programs, understaffing, and fewer resources for our schools.

Meanwhile, for the 2021-22 school year, the needs of our schools are greater than ever. We must take action now.

We are parents, students and supporters of the Danbury Public School system and we ask you to fully fund the BOE-approved Danbury Public Schools Education Budget for 2021-22. Financial support for Danbury Public Schools is an investment. Well-performing schools impact property values and tax revenues; they also help attract families and businesses to the area. Properly funded schools lead to better outcomes for our students and a stronger community overall. Well-educated graduates contribute to the economy and vitality of the city: as consumers, entrepreneurs, business owners, and civic leaders.

The needs of our schools are greater than ever. In the upcoming year, DHS will need to add more course, our district will need to offer additional bilingual services and ongoing support for special education students, our district needs technology upgrades to equip students with 21st century skills, and our students need additional social emotional support in the form of school counselors, social workers, behavior specialists, and nurses when returning to school in the midst of a pandemic.
