Nearly three million Floridians, including more than 1.5 million children, are on the verge of losing federal food assistance. This preventable disaster-in-the-making comes amidst a government shutdown and on the heels of President Trump and Republicans in Congress refusing to make health care for working families and our seniors affordable.
Those who depend on food assistance (SNAP) are our friends and neighbors: people who work in our communities, our children’s classmates, veterans and seniors. Right now, one man has the ability to prevent millions of Floridians from going hungry as the holiday season begins: Governor Ron DeSantis.
Urge Gov. DeSantis to declare a state of emergency to free up state dollars and ensure nearly three million Floridians don’t go hungry.

I strongly urge you to declare a State of Emergency under Section 252.36 of the Florida Statutes to ensure millions of our fellow Floridians don’t have to wonder where their next meal is coming from as we head into the holiday season.
There is no excuse, and no political gamesmanship worth allowing Floridians to suffer from hunger. Please do the right thing by Florida families and act immediately to release some of the nearly $5 billion in state emergency reserves to fend off this preventable disaster.
