TELL GW: DIVEST FROM DEATH

George Washington University

The George Washington University is a war-profiteering institution. GW receives funding from and invests in the top five weapons manufacturers: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics.

The communities destroyed at the hands of weapons manufacturers become collateral damage in a lucrative war economy that exists to enrich elites at the cost of the environment and the health, safety, and rights of others.

For example, GW’s investments in Lockheed Martin make the school complicit in the ongoing Yemen humanitarian crisis. Lockheed Martin has made millions of dollars by equipping Saudi Arabia with weapons for war. These weapons have destabilized Yemen and caused famine with 20 million innocent civilians starving.

WE DEMAND that GW’s Board of Trustees end their support of war and human rights violations by taking immediate action to:

  • DIVEST GW from the top 5 weapons manufacturers: Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman.

GW cannot claim to “dedicate itself to furthering human well-being,” as stated in its mission statement, while being complicit in the death and destruction of the earth and humanity.

The George Washington University is a war-profiteering institution. Instead of investing its resources in students, GW receives funding from and invests in the top five weapons manufacturers: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics.

These weapons manufacturers sustain the cycle of endless war, impacting the lives of our loved ones and aiding the mass murder of civilians all over the world in places such as Yemen, West Papua, and Palestine.

At home, these companies also equip police forces in Chicago, New York, and D.C. with military-grade weapons that target and terrorize Black and brown communities.

The communities destroyed at the hands of weapons manufacturers become collateral damage in a lucrative war economy that exists to enrich elites at the cost of the environment and the health, safety, and rights of others.

As students paying tuition, we have a say in where and how our university spends its endowment.

The intellectual and financial resources that students contribute to GW should be invested into life-giving resources for our community, rather than weapons manufacturers. For years, GW students have struggled with the rising cost of tuition and housing, food insecurity, unlivable dorm conditions such as black mold, and the burden of living in one of the most expensive and segregated cities in the United States.

GW cannot claim to “dedicate itself to furthering human well-being,” as stated in its mission statement, while being complicit in the death and destruction of the earth and humanity.

WE DEMAND that GW’s Board of Trustees end their support of war and human rights violations by taking immediate action to:

DIVEST GW from the top 5 weapons manufacturers: Boeing, Lockheed
Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman.

Join us in our campaign to push GW to Divest from Death.
