Residents of North Carolina are victims of 40 years worth of drinking water chemical contamination at the hands of Chemours' Fayetteville Works facility. We adamantly oppose any plan allowing Chemours to expand its operations at the Fayetteville Works plant in Bladen County, NC.

For more than a generation, DuPont and its spinoff, Chemours, have recklessly exposed communities in North Carolina to dangerous PFAS--often called "forever chemicals"--all the while knowing these chemicals endangered our health.

Instead of finding solutions to prevent exposure and protect the environment, this chemical behemoth downplayed the dangers of their chemicals – resulting in catastrophic contamination of over 500,000 North Carolinians’ drinking water.

Chemours is actively making money off these toxic chemicals while refusing to help the communities they knowingly harmed. Right now, Chemours is trying to stop U.S. EPA efforts to simply advise Americans that GenX can be dangerous at tiny amounts in drinking water.

Their conscious disregard of and indifference to the rights and safety of a half a million North Carolinians must not be rewarded with expansion and/or additional operational permits.

We are asking N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) to oppose Chemours' expansion plans.

We're not convinced NCDEQ fully understands how Chemours operates; therefore, they are not equipped to adequately assess a request for expansion.

Chemours has not shown North Carolina it can responsibly and safely operate its Fayetteville Works facility. Instead, we believe Chemours chooses to spend money on misleading advertising in our region versus meeting the basic needs of the residents they harmed. Here are just ten examples in the last four years alone:

1. Chemours refuses to provide FREE emergency water to downstream contaminated city water users.

2. Chemours is actively fighting lawsuits from CFPUA & Brunswick County for tap water upgrades.

3. Chemours is challenging U.S. EPA's GenX health advisory.

4. Chemours proposed an inadequate plan for their barrier wall.

5. Chemours is slow walking required toxicity studies from the 2019 consent order.

6. Chemours is reluctant to fix Lower Cape Fear private well owners' contamination.

7. Chemours makes private well owners wait 6 MONTHS for free emergency water.

8. Chemours sued by Cumberland County for failing to meet county needs.

9. Chemours issued multiple notice of violations by U.S. EPA in 2019.

10. Chemours failing to control GenX air emissions, NCDEQ issues more violations.

In addition, we are urging local elected leaders to: 1) join our cause by adding their names to this petition, and 2) adopt municipal resolutions against Chemours’ expansion plans, as soon as possible.

Chemours' willful malfeasance has gone on long enough. It’s time to say “No More!”
