Tell OH Gov DeWine to NOT cut off the federally funded $300 unemployment safety net!

Governor Mike DeWine

On June 26th, Gov. Mike DeWine will end the $300-per-week federal unemployment compensation benefits for thousands of Ohioans who have lost their job(s) to the COVID-19 recession. These funds were supposed to be available until September to ensure our well being and stability & that is the people’s money!

Anyone who is unemployed – even outside of a recession—is experiencing a crisis.

Far from recovered, workers still need these payments to pay their bills & buy groceries. The $300 benefit has been a lifeline for Ohioans. Ohio has 295,000 fewer jobs than the 5.6 million we had in February of 2020. We want to work! The best way for employers to attract new workers is to pay good wages and offer benefits. Ohioans re-enter the workforce when sustainable jobs are available.

UI is an effective stimulus for a FULL economic recovery for Ohio. Every $1 of UI generates $1.61 in economic activity. Cutting benefits is bad for the economy because WE are the economy. We - the people - must come together to demand a government that cares for all of us - regardless of where we were born, the zipcode we live in or how much we have in our wallets.

Sign this petition to tell Gov DeWine to NOT end the fully funded federal pandemic unemployment insurance programs & keep the additional $300!

Dear Governor DeWine,

As a country and as a state are still in the midst of the COVID-19 recession. We, your constituents, ask you to reconsider your decision to turn down the fully funded pandemic relief that out of work Ohioans and their families still need. Cutting the additional $300 federal assistance is simply creating unnecessary, prolonged hardship.

UI is an effective stimulus for a FULL economic recovery for Ohio. Every $1 of UI generates $1.61 in economic activity. Cutting benefits is bad for Ohio's economy because WE - the people are the economy! And we want to get back to work! However Ohio has 295,000 fewer jobs than the 5.6 million reported February 2020 and many unemployed workers are waiting for their industries to open back up. Ohioans re-enter the workforce when sustainable jobs are available. The best way for employers to attract new workers is to pay good wages and offer benefits. Ohio has 295,000 fewer jobs than the 5.6 million reported in February 2020. The $300 federal benefit has been a lifeline for Ohioans, putting money in pockets, food on tables, keeping the economy afloat.

If we are "All in this together", then recovery from this recession must include everyone, not just the wealthy few, private-public partner groups and corporations. We, the public, need a seat at the table as well as the same level of partnership in the modernization process as private interest groups. There needs to be a representative from Ohio’s unemployed workforce on the Unemployment Compensation Modernization and Improvement council. With two empty seats on council, it’s not too late for you to include those with first hand knowledge and navigation experience of the many obstacles that impede access to benefits.

Gov DeWine, we implore you, fill the empty council seats with an unemployed Ohio worker & to NOT end the fully funded federal pandemic unemployment insurance programs that so many of your constituents still need or have yet to receive.

Thank you.
