Tell Rep. Lauren Underwood to Support H.R.1296: Assault Weapons Ban of 2019
Representative Lauren Underwood
Assault rifles accounted for 430 or 85.8% of the total 501 mass-shooting fatalities reported in 44 mass-shooting incidents. Mass shootings in the United States accounted for an increasing proportion of all firearm-related homicides. PLEASE help us REINSTATE the Assault Weapons Ban and take weapons of war off the streets.

Dear Community Members of Illinois's 14th Congressional District,
In February 2019, David Cicilline (D-RI-1) introduced H.R. 1296, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019. This bill would prohibit the sale or possession of semiautomatic assault weapons (SAW) and large capacity ammunition feeding devices (LCAFD). Assault weapons and large capacity magazines are frequently used to carry out mass shootings, and restricting their availability will reduce these shooters’ ability to kill and injure innocent victims at a rapid-fire rate.
When a previous assault weapons ban was in effect from 1994 to 2014, an average of just under 5 people died in mass shootings per year; in the years since the ban has expired, that number has increased by nearly 400%.
Your representative, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, does not publicly support the Assault Weapons Ban (H.R 1296). March For Our Lives Illinois students have been in contact with her office, and have met with her to discuss this issue in person. She has said she would support this life saving legislation if her constituents voice their concern regarding the Assault Weapons Ban.
We need you to help show Rep. Underwood that her constituents care about the urgency of acting on life saving legislation.
In solidarity,
March For Our Lives Illinois
