Tell Senator Crapo to Protect Medicaid

Senator Crapo

The United States Senate is currently in active negotiations with the House of Representatives on a resolution passed by the House that includes $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid and $230 billion in cuts to food assistance.

Senators now have a big decision to make: They can either adopt the House proposal—including deep cuts to life-saving healthcare—or they can amend the proposal and reject these harmful cuts.

Senator Mike Crapo plays a big role in these negotiations, and it’s critical that he hears from the people of Idaho.

Please sign the petition and urge Senator Mike Crapo to protect Idahoans and reject harmful cuts to Medicaid and food assistance.

A final list of signatures will be printed and hand-delivered to Senator Crapo’s offices by Idaho Supports Medicaid, an initiative of Idaho Voices for Children.

We, the undersigned, urge you to reject the proposed cuts to Medicaid and food assistance in the House budget resolution. These cuts would put thousands of Idahoans, including children, seniors, and people with disabilities, at risk.

As Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, you have championed bipartisan solutions to strengthen rural health care and support Idaho families.
Idahoans are relying on your continued leadership as they face high stakes:

• Medicaid provides health care to over 340,000 Idahoans, and half are children. Cuts would lead to fewer services, higher costs, and more strain on our rural hospitals and clinics, which are already struggling to keep their doors open.
• SNAP helps over 136,000 Idahoans afford food. Reducing this support would increase hunger, especially among children, seniors, and veterans.

Medicaid and SNAP investments help lower health care costs for all, create jobs, and fuel local businesses in every corner of our state. Slashing Medicaid and SNAP will hurt not only the direct participants but weaken our economy at a precarious time.
In your February column, you pledged your commitment “to ensuring Idahoans have access to effective, high-quality, affordable health care.”

We thank you for making this pledge and encourage you to act on it by protecting wise investments in the health of Idaho families and rejecting harmful cuts.

Sincerely,
Idaho Voters
