These people’s names and addresses were stolen and used to submit fake comments against net neutrality. Tell the FCC to do something about it!

Federal Communications Commission

Dozens of people whose names and addresses were literally stolen and used to submit fraudulent comments against net neutrality sent a letter this week to the FCC demanding the agency remove the fake messages submitted in their names [1][2].

But so far the FCC has done absolutely nothing about it, and outrageously they've even implied that they will treat the fraudulent comments the same as real ones [3].

Someone working on the side of giant cable companies like Comcast and AT&T -- who have a long history of funding shady astroturfing operations -- has been stealing hundreds of thousands of peoples’ personal information in an attempt to confuse the public and give the FCC cover for their attack on the free and open Internet.

The FCC knows these comments are fake. Dozens of media outlets have independently verified the fact that stolen names and addresses were used.

People have even come forward furious to learn that fake comments were submitted using the names and addresses of their deceased family members [4].

We need to turn up the pressure on the FCC by getting thousands of people to contact them about this right now.

Sign the petition calling on the FCC to:

  • Notify all who have been impacted by this attack
  • Remove all of the fraudulent comments, including the ones made in our names, from the public docket immediately
  • Publicly disclose any information the FCC may have about the group or person behind the 450,000+ fake comments
  • Call for an investigation by the appropriate authorities into possible violations of 18 U.S.C. § 1001 (“making false statements”) and other relevant laws.

The FCC's final vote on the future of net neutrality protections is in just a few weeks, so we need to turn up the pressure by getting thousands of people to contact them about this right now.

After you sign, please share widely!

Someone has submitted nearly half a million anti-net neutrality comments to the FCC, many of which appear to be completely fake— using stolen names and addresses.

The FCC must (1) notify all who have been impacted by this attack, (2) remove all of the fraudulent comments, including the ones made in our names, from the public docket immediately, (3) publicly disclose any information the FCC may have about the group or person behind the 450,000+ fake comments, and (4) call for an investigation by the appropriate authorities into possible violations of 18 U.S.C. § 1001 (“making false statements”) and other relevant laws.
