Tell the NYC Council: Support Fair Pay for Music Streaming!
New York City Council
The New York City Council is currently considering Resolution 368, which would declare the Council's support for the Living Wage for Musicians Act — a bill that would mandate streaming services to fairly compensate musicians.
We need to show the Council that NYC musicians support this resolution. Right now, the resolution is cosponsored by Council Members Hanif, Ossé, Rivera, Menin, Cabán, Brannan, Louis, Brewer, Riley, and Farías, but many more Council Members have yet to sign on.
Add your name here to urge the entire City Council to support Resolution 368 and fair pay for musicians! We will individually deliver this petition, with its list of signatures, to every member of the Council to show that NYC musicians demand fair pay.
This petition is open to all music workers who live in New York City.
The full NYC Council vote on the resolution is this Wednesday, May 28 at 2pm at NYC Hall.

We, the undersign music workers of NYC, urge you to join Council Members Hanif, Ossé, Rivera, Menin, Cabán, Brannan, Louis, Brewer, Riley and Farías in cosponsoring Resolution No. 368 calling on the United States Congress to pass, and the President to sign, the Living Wage for Musicians Act.
The Living Wage for Musicians Act is a bill in the US Congress sponsored our organization, United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW), that would require Big Tech streaming companies like Spotify to fairly compensate musicians. UMAW is a non-profit advocacy group with a reach of 50,000 independent musicians and music workers nationwide, including thousands of artists in New York City. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and former Rep. Bowman are among the original co-sponsors for this bill, speaking to the enormous importance of music and the arts to New York City..
You can preview aspects of the legislation and our campaign for it, Make Streaming Pay, on our website: https://weareumaw.org/make-streaming-pay. Please let us know if you would like more information, or if we can set up a time for a meeting to discuss the bill.
