Sacramento: Tell the Benicia City Council No Dangerous Oil Trains!

Benicia City Council

Your URGENT support is needed by April 4th: Don’t let Sacramento be the site of the next oil train disaster!

Valero Energy Corporation is proposing to build an oil train terminal at their refinery in Benicia. If approved, this terminal would allow trains carrying over 2.5 million gallons of toxic, explosive crude oil to travel through California’s communities every day en route to the Valero Benicia refinery.

In early February, we had a major victory -- when the Benicia Planning Commission voted unanimously to deny Valero’s land use permit -- highlighting that the project “would be detrimental to the public health, safety, or welfare” of Benicians and uprail communities.

On April 4, the Benicia City Council will hear Valero’s appeal of the oil train terminal denial. The City Council’s decision is final -- we need NOW more than ever to pressure decision makers to do the right thing and deny this project.

ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PETITION NOW to urge the Benicia City Council to follow the principled position of its Planning Commission and deny the permit for this project.

This is a crucial moment in the multi-year long fight to stop oil trains in Benicia. The City Council will decide April 4th whether or not to approve this dangerous project. We need to do everything in our power to protect our communities.

Let's make sure Benicia’s leaders know that Sacramento is watching.

PS... If you can, join us on April 4th at the City Council hearing in Benicia. There'll be a rally and time for concerned people to register to speak. RSVP here: bit.ly/BeniciaRSVPApr4

Right now, oil giant Valero is fighting to build a rail terminal at its refinery in Benicia. The refinery would receive trains carrying highly toxic and explosive crude oil. If approved, mile-long oil trains will roll through Sacramento every day en route to the Valero Benicia refinery.

We call on you to protect our public health and safety by voting to deny the Valero oil trains terminal.
