Tell the Senate: Don’t let COVID-19 upend our democracy

U.S. Senate

If we want to maintain a robust, accessible democracy in the face of the COVID-19 crisis -- this is our moment to act.

The House has just passed the HEROES Act, a comprehensive stimulus package to revitalize our economy, help everyday Americans, and protect our democracy. It allocates the resources we need to make sure nobody loses their right to be heard during this pandemic.

Now, it’s the Senate’s turn to sign off on this funding. But with Mitch McConnell at the helm -- who’d rather put the money toward no-strings-attached corporate giveaways -- it’ll be a tough fight.

That’s why we need an outcry from everyday Americans, calling on lawmakers in both parties to step up for our democracy -- while simultaneously ensuring public health and strengthening our economy.

The Senate must pass a stimulus package that includes:

- $3.6 billion for secure, accessible elections -- with expanded vote-by-mail, extra early voting hours, online voter registration, and more
- Funding to save the U.S. Postal Service, a lifeline for millions of Americans
- Increased 2020 Census funding to ensure communities get the representation and resources they deserve
- Funding for broadband expansions to help employees, students, and families stay connected

Don’t let the Senate deny our democracy the resources it needs to survive this public health crisis. Demand your senators vote for a strong, comprehensive HEROES Act.

The House just passed a stimulus bill with ample funding for secure and accessible elections, a strong Postal Service, an accurate 2020 Census, and more.

But Mitch McConnell will try to cut all of that out -- and we can’t let him. The Senate must fully fund our democracy during the COVID-19 crisis.
