You may have heard that the Walmart store in West Plains, Missouri, recently terminated a beloved cashier, Frank Swanson. Mr. Swanson was a loyal and dedicated employee at Walmart for nearly 20 years, even as he suffered from brain damage and partial paralysis due to an accident that occurred when he was in eighth grade. Frank did not let his disabilities define him – he overcame them.

Walmart owes Frank and the entire West Plains community an apology. Walmart employees are not numbers, and they are not disposable. They are real people, like Frank, and they matter. Frank matters to his family, his co-workers, the community, and this nation. And, he should matter to Walmart.
