The violent mob in the U.S. Capitol typified a long-standing pattern: Donald Trump’s social media accounts are the world’s most prominent organizing tool for violent white nationalists. Social media companies must remove all disinformation blaming others for what happened and delete his accounts.

For years, social media companies Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube have profited from the use of their platforms by Trump and other hate groups to spread hate and foment violence — in clear violation of their company policies.

Under public pressure following the attempted coup, a couple social media companies temporarily locked Trump’s account. This is too little too late. Even after Trump leaves office, he will continue to use his accounts to peddle hate, conspiracy, and misinformation on a massive scale.
