This creepy new program will make you never want to fly JetBlue again

JetBlue

JetBlue just instituted a biometric boarding program that scans passengers’ faces before letting them on to international flights. Backlash started after one person posted their story on twitter. JetBlue responded to this passenger with vague answers and press talking points that did not address how or why this program is running. So today we are planting a flag to push back on JetBlue’s creepy facial recognition program.

Just think: if we get used to getting our faces scanned to get on a plane, how long before we get our faces scanned to go to the doctor or buy groceries or for our kid to go to school?

JetBlue’s biometric boarding program is a surveillance nightmare.

These technologies have been proven to be inaccurate and reinforce systemic inequality, target and crush dissent, and increase prejudice—yet their use is still being considered by governments who could eventually tie data on your unique physical characteristics (AKA: your biometric data) to your addresses, social security number, financial information, etc.

JetBlue’s surveillance goes way too far so we’re calling on them to drop their facial recognition program entirely. JetBlue isn't doing this to keep us safe, they're doing it as a marketing gimmick—a super dangerous & terrifying one.

If companies like JetBlue truly want to be seen as “consumer friendly,” then they’ll refuse to to carry out the the government’s overreaching surveillance. If enough of us speak out, we can stop JetBlue’s invasive facial recognition program, and other airlines & companies will follow suit until nobody is collecting our biometric data anymore.
