Uphold the War Powers Act—No Unauthorized War with Iran
US Senators and Representatives
The War Powers Act of 1973 is a cornerstone of American constitutional democracy, designed to ensure that the President cannot unilaterally commit the United States to military conflict. Its importance lies not just in legal structure, but in protecting the people from being dragged into war without debate, transparency, or consent. In the case of Iran, this principle is more urgent than ever.
Over the past two decades, U.S. involvement in the Middle East has led to immense human suffering, the deaths of hundreds of thousands, and trillions of dollars spent. Much of this was initiated under vague authorizations or outright executive overreach. Trump’s military actions against Iran have been carried out without clear Congressional authorization.
Enforcing the War Powers Act is not just a procedural necessity; it is a moral and democratic imperative. It requires elected representatives to openly debate and vote on decisions of war and peace. It ensures that the public has a say, through their representatives, in whether the nation should commit blood and treasure to foreign conflicts.
Failure to uphold the War Powers Act weakens the rule of law and reinforces a dangerous precedent of unchecked presidential power. Upholding it, especially in relation to Iran, affirms our commitment to democracy, accountability, and peace. It signals to the world, and to future presidents, that the U.S. does not go to war on the whims of one individual, but only through the collective, lawful consent of its people.

We, the undersigned, call on you to fulfill your constitutional duty by enforcing the War Powers Act of 1973 in response to any military actions against Iran.
Unauthorized military strikes, covert operations, and inflammatory rhetoric threaten to draw our nation into another endless war without public debate, accountability, or legal authorization.
The War Powers Act was enacted to prevent exactly this kind of unchecked executive power. It requires that the President seek Congressional approval before initiating hostilities, and mandates withdrawal from conflicts not authorized within 60 days.
We urge you to:
• Publicly affirm Congress’s sole constitutional authority to declare war.
• Demand full transparency on all military actions or deployments related to Iran.
• Refuse to fund or support unauthorized military escalation.
No president should have the unilateral power to drag the American people into war. Uphold the law. Defend the Constitution. Say no to unauthorized war with Iran.
