U.S. Government: Stop the cruel and unnecessary separation of children from their parents at the US border

JEFFERSON BEAUREGARD SESSIONS III, U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL

As US citizens living in the Netherlands, we are profoundly concerned about the Trump Administration's "zero-tolerance" policy of separating children from parents crossing the US border without documentation.

Since news of the extreme child separation policy broke on 26 May 2018, Trump's federal agents have taken children, from infants to teens, away from their immigrant parents in high numbers every day.

We, the descendants of immigrants ourselves, want to make our concerns and wishes known to to the US Attorney General and all other members of the US government involved in the creation and implementation of immigration policy. We utterly reject the Trump Administration's hard-line immigration policies.

We, the descendants of immigrants ourselves, want to make our concerns and wishes known to the US Attorney General and all other members of the US government involved in the creation and implementation of immigration policy.

We utterly reject the Trump Administration's hard-line immigration policies. With this petition, we demand an end to all inhumane and discriminatory immigration policies. We demand an end to any policy separating children from their families and we demand the immediate reunification of separated families.

The cruel treatment of asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants must end. As a nation of immigrants, we remember the Statue of Liberty and the American spirit she embodies:

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
