UVM Health has announced their intention to cease coverage of GLP medications for many of our members and their families, effective September 1st, 2026. These medications have transformed the quality of life and health of so many of us; this decision will have devastating consequences and exacerbate existing health inequities.  We believe ceasing coverage of these medications directly contradicts the values espoused by a healthcare institution that prides itself on putting patients and their health first.  We also assert that this decision is discriminatory, as it targets medical care for a specific group of people.  Furthermore, our unions believe that UVM Health should not be able to unilaterally change a significant piece of our healthcare benefits without inviting us to the bargaining table.

When the Vermont Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals first learned of this change, we promptly filed a grievance under Articles 1 – Preamble, Article 7 – Non-Discrimination, Article 30– Flexible Benefits, and Article 48 – Maintenance of Standards. While our unions do not have identical contract language, benefit changes are being made at the Network level.  Thus, we intend for this grievance to capture employees and families network-wide.  All members are invited to join this fight!  The outcry from members across the network has already led to an expansion of GLP coverage for certain conditions -- let's keep up the pressure and protect coverage for all!
