I grew up in the north of England, and moved south for university. As an engineer by profession, I have spent much of my life working on technical solutions to climate change and poverty reduction, working within academia, industry and the charity sector. I moved to Abingdon, Oxfordshire in 2019 to work in nuclear fusion research, where I manage a team developing materials to help produce low-carbon electricity.
My professional life is about change – changing technologies, changing projects, changing people’s lives. As an MP candidate I would bring this experience to a wider audience, influencing bigger changes than I can make alone.
I am standing for election as MP to represent the people of Oxfordshire, to make sure their voices are heard. The county - and country - need a Green New Deal, to tackle climate change, reduce inequality, and invest in infrastructure and public services that are fit for the future. The Green Party’s policies address all of these issues head on, and I would like to make a difference.
I will work with South and Vale Green Party to build an effective campaign around our policy themes. Recognising the challenge in ousting the incumbent MP, a key part of our strategy can be shifting the debate towards the changes we want to see - in this way we can expand our influence, regardless of who wins in this constituency.
I have a good ability to grasp the big picture and the implications of change and new policies. My education gives me a solid scientific understanding of climate change, and the promise and limitations of new technologies. My career gives me the skills to distil the core message down to an relevant, digestible level appropriate to the audience.
