Originally from the midlands I have now been a resident of Sussex for the majority my life. Not long after graduating I established my own business in Washington and have since successfully supplied machinery into the commercial horticultural industry throughout the UK and overseas. From an environmental perspective this has proved invaluable in understanding both the need to produce affordable food and the difficulties growers have to overcome to do so. Current projects involve working with major tree production nurseries some funded by carbon offsetting incentives.
From a personal objective I’m a keen sportsman, sailor and ex mountaineer. I also have a good knowledge of wildlife, having been a Wildlife Trust Reserve manager for many years, and I’m currently involved in restoring farm ponds. I try to cycle everywhere including to the local pub!
I joined the green party less than a year ago but immediately stood as a councillor for Billingshurst in the local elections whilst also leafleting for my local Green Party candidates in Pulborough who were greatly successful. With a thirst for knowledge I attended the recent Green Party Conference in Brighton.
I am standing as a candidate for the Green party because from a National perspective I believe the current economic model is entirely floored. In reality the nation and the majority of its citizens are getting poorer by the day and eventually we will have to shift towards a sustainable economic policy that supports the environment and citizens alike. I would also like to see a rapid shift away from oil not only because of the direct environmental affects but its use only supports warring nations. Despite sanctions Russia is still the world’s third biggest producer of oil.
Locally I would like to see the development of County Wide cycle network. Reduced car use and improved local transport.
Primarily leafleting as this has the greatest impact but a great deal of door knocking!
