No Kings 3 is just over two weeks away!
Have you signed up to attend, volunteer, and/or help recruit attendees?
We need your help to make IHB’s No Kings protest (March 28th) the biggest and best yet by turning out a huge crowd of community members. Together – and peacefully, Wilmington will say NO to the Trump regime’s attacks on our rights and attempts at authoritarianism.
Here’s how we need you to help. Note that information below also includes details for upcoming Honk and Waves and Visibility Bridge Brigades.
1. Sign up to attend: https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/911017/.
2. Recruit friends and neighbors to join you. Can you find three people who didn’t attend previous protests to come along with you? “Copy and paste” the Mobilize link above or the graphic below in emails to friends or post to your social media. [Listen/watch for these fabulous new PSAs (here, here, and here) on local radio and TV stations - created by Marie Sennett. Thank you, Marie!)
3. We need volunteers! Please click HERE to sign-up for a task/job. (Note: We need eight more safety marshals, so if you can sign up – training will be provided – please do!)
4. SPECIAL REQUEST: Please make a donation to help defray event costs (stage and porta-potty rental, etc.) by going to: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/indivisibleihb881204482. Contributions of any size will be put to good use – and will be greatly appreciated!
5. Participate in one or more of the upcoming promotional activities:
- March in the St. Patrick’s Parade with us this Saturday, March 14th. Meet at 11:45 am at the staging area at the corner of 5th and King Streets.
- RSVP to Anne at aelmlinger@comcast.net - by tomorrow, the 12th - to let us know you can come (and to receive other details and last-minute instructions).
- Wear green (or an inflatable!) and your IHB hat, and bring a sign. (See ideas HERE.)
- Join a Thursday Honk and Wave, 4:30-5:30 (Bring signs - ideas are HERE.):
- Tomorrow, March 12 – On the Riverfront, meet at the corner of Harlan Blvd. and Justison St. Park on the street or in nearby public parking lots. (Lots of parking lots are in the area; just make sure you avoid any marked as private.)
- March 19 – Along Pennsylvania Avenue in front of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1502 W. 13th St. (Park in the lot behind the church.)
- March 26 – On the Riverfront (see details above for March 12th)
- Come to a Friday Bridge Brigade this Friday the 13th; and on the 20th and 27th.
- On the I-95 Pedestrian Overpass in Claymont. For directions, click HERE.
- No need to bring signs - just wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring a flag to wave if you have one. Questions? Email LaNae at lanaesolomon@yahoo.com.
6. Start making your plan for the day.
- Wear yellow! [You can buy a yellow No Kings bandana from any Social Capital Work Group member at the Monday meeting, or email Jill Gaumer at jill.gaumer@gmail.com.]
- Make your sign. See sign ideas HERE.
- Buy an inflatable costume or design another costume to wear! Strategic silliness is a great way to dispute the Trump regime’s claims that No Kings protests are violent “hate America” rallies).
- If you want to attend but can’t or don’t wish to march, please join our Honk and Wave (after the rally, while others are marching). Feel free to bring a chair.
- Figure out your transportation plans. Click HERE to review parking and public transportation options, and form a carpool with friends or neighbors.
- Kids and dogs are welcome.
- Make plans to have lunch somewhere on the Riverfront afterwards. (See list of restaurants HERE.)
Reminders:
- To know your rights as a protester, click HERE.
- And remember: If you encounter a heckler or counter-protester (organized or unorganized, from a simple raised finger to a verbal taunt), the rule of thumb is to IGNORE IT!! Do not engage. If necessary, simply turn your back - or walk away. For more on how to de-escalate, check out these new guidelines, and click HERE for other tips.
