Six days from now, next Saturday, on the third No Kings Day, we will proclaim our refusal to submit. . . It will also show each of us that we’re not alone.  It will show hope and determination all around us. . . Our march next Saturday will demonstrate that we will not be silenced. . . America belongs to us, We the People.

Information and Tips

Help Make NK3 Our Biggest Yet!

Please help build our turnout – and the movement:  Recruit, recruit, recruit!!

And Last but Not Least …

1.     RAISE YOUR VOICE IN SONG ON MARCH 28!  The newly formed No Kings Chorus is still looking for singers to perform at the end of the No Kings March at Tubman-Garrett Park on March 28th.  Conductor Lynne Claire Morse and accompanist Matthew Jewell will lead the chorus and engage march participants in songs of resistance.

There will be one rehearsal (encouraged but not required) prior to the event.  To register for the chorus, click HERE. (Note:  The rehearsal is today at 5:00 p.m.  When you sign-up, you’ll receive rehearsal location as well as pdfs of all music and part tracks.  If you can’t make the rehearsal, that’s okay; just sign-up no later than March 26.).

2.     VOLUNTEERS:  Thank you to everyone who has signed-up to volunteer.  We couldn't pull off this massive event without you!

3.    THANK YOU to everyone who contributed so generously to IHB to help cover the many expenses required to pull- off a successful – and LARGE – event like NK3.  Wow – it does indeed take a village!

If you have questions, please contact Nancy Wahler:  nancywahler@gmail.com.

IHB PUSH BACK

!!  SUMMARY:    IHB Push Back, part of the Resistance Work Group (RWG), aims to make it difficult for companies, institutions, and organized groups that are supporting the Trump Regime to continue to do so.  Our goal is to make it embarrassing, uncomfortable, or financially disadvantageous for these companies/institutions to continue to support the Regime, by making the public, and especially their customers, aware of their actions.

If you are interested in what we are doing, join us.  We meet every Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. by Zoom.   Contact Deb at dstravers@comcast.net to get the link.

!! 1.   New IHB Push Back Action:

Summary:  IHB Push Back is teaming-up with Beth Anne Gluck’s Immigration Advocacy Team to identify practicing, retired, and out-of-state attorneys to fill gaps in the legal process for immigrants who are being threatened with detention and deportation.

Action:   Pro bono attorneys are needed to (1) draft habeas petitions in federal court for detainees and/or (2) represent detainees in the immigration administrative court, located in Philadelphia.  There are several nonprofits leading the charge on these volunteer positions.  For those who have not done habeas work before, the nonprofits would like the attorney to take a training prior to volunteering. There is an upcoming virtual training the end of this month.

Background

The Immigration Court system is buried right now with all of the new detainees being rounded-up for deportation. There aren’t enough immigration attorneys or judges to handle the workload. Timing is critical to file the necessary briefs before the detainee is deported without due process.

If you would like more information on the processes and the nonprofits, please reach out to Tricia McCarthy at tricia.ann.mccarthy@gmail.com.

IHB Push Back continues to support the following initiatives which are focused on the Business pillar:

!! 2.  No Detention Camp Labor! (NDCL)   We are partnering with the Indivisible Philadelphia Group on a campaign to target companies that use cheap prison labor (or use vendors who do so).   Unfortunately, this is legal and considered part of the punishment.   A few of these companies have crossed the line and started using ICE detainee labor, which is illegal.  These companies get around this issue by calling the detainees “students”.  We want assurances that these companies won’t start using immigrant detainees in this way.  We launched this letter writing campaign seven weeks ago, inspired by Professor Timothy Snyder.

Summary:   We want companies to pledge NOT to use ICE detainee labor or use contractors that do.  Letters will go out to two target companies each week.  The letters should be mailed to the companies.   Here’s the HOW TO:

Action:

Background:   ICE detention camps are springing up all over the country as a result of ICE funding from the Trump regime.  They routinely "rent” prisoners out to companies as slave labor as part of their punishment.    Most of the immigrant detainees abducted from our communities have not had the due process that has been afforded to prisoners.   They do not fall within the slavery exception in the 13th Amendment.   We want to prevent detainee labor now, to deter companies from getting any ideas about using it.

!! 3.  Shame on Citizens Bank

Our successes within the Business Pillar (Avelo, Spotify, Daedalus) have made Corporate CEOs understand the Power of the People! We are becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Summary:   We want to force Citizens Bank (CB) to quit funding CoreCivic and GEO, who build and run the for-profit prisons used to hold ICE detainees under deplorable conditions.   Citizens Bank is resisting our efforts, so we are escalating.

Even with all the press coverage for the 11-state, multi-site protest on March 7, in the Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer and the Rachel Maddow Show, Citizens Bank has not backed down.

Dan Fitzpatrick, President of Mid-Atlantic Region has not responded to my request for a meeting.   So, let’s keep up the pressure. There are new tactics in the works. Stay tuned.

Action:   Social Media Campaign.

Continue to post signs like the one below to Facebook.

OPERATIONS

Mark Your Calendar - We're Moving!

As much as we love Monday meetings at Wilmington Brew Works, beginning on Monday, April 6, we'll be moving to a new location, to accommodate our ever-growing membership.  (We believe that you will understand if you have ever tried to look for a parking spot or a seat at one of our recent meetings.).  Note that we will continue at Wilmington Brew Works on Monday 23 and 30.

Here's what you need to know about our new space:

We're excited about this change and will test the new space by meeting there on Monday, April 6, and April 13. Silverside has ample seating (150 - 170 or more), good audio, plentiful parking, and the church staff are happy to welcome us.  The church does not serve beverages, but we are free to bring in, and take out, beverages of our choice.

We'll need, though, to set-up, and take-down, chairs and tables, so contact Nancy Hannigan if you can volunteer to be part of a chair team!

Any questions, contact Nancy Hannigan, njhannigan@yahoo.com or 302-304-2184.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Volunteers Needed - Chair Teams!

When we move our Monday meetings to Silverside Church on April 6, we'll need two "chair teams":  one to set-up chairs/tables before the meeting and a second team to put them back.  Could you join one of these teams?  All are welcome and please specify which team you wish to join, if you have a preference.

Contact Nancy at njhannigan@yahoo.com or 302-304-2184

ADVOCACY SUCCESSES

!!  ACLU'S LOBBY DAY - MARCH 18

Seven IHB members participated in ACLU’s Lobby day on March 18, – Our Voices at the Capital:  Keeping Our Communities Safe.  We asked legislators to support HB 94, which would ban Delaware law enforcement officers from cooperating with ICE in protected places (schools, day cares, healthcare settings, and places of worship).

A few months back, IHB members sent 219 emails to House Leadership during the ACLU’s “email blitz” in support of HB 94, but it remains stalled on the ready list.

This week we met with Sen. Dan Cruce, Rep. Melanie Ross-Levin, and Rep. Mike Smith, three legislators who had not been familiar with the bill.  We presented stories about children, families, restaurant workers, and healthcare workers who experienced fear and trauma when local police cooperated in these efforts.  Cruce and Ross-Levin agreed to co-sponsor the bill.  Mike Smith was very receptive but wanted to read the bill carefully before making a commitment.

In addition, we met with the Senate Majority Leader Brian Townsend, House Majority Whip Ed Osienski, and Representatives Sean Lynn (sponsor), Frank Burns (co-sponsor), and Mara Gorman (co-sponsor).

Thanks to the ACLU’s preparation and organization and IHB’s “boots on the ground”, we had a very successful lobby day and added SIX new co-sponsors to the bill!

!!  LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS - LEAGUE DAY 2026 - MARCH 19

IHB members attended the League of Women Voters - League Day 2026 this week.  The program included a panel of legislators who answered questions about Immigration, Voting Rights, and Criminal Justice Reform.  Delaware A.G. Kathy Jennings spoke to the group about her office’s efforts to resist the Trump administration’s many illegal and unconstitutional acts.  Her message was, “We’re fighting him in the courts, and we’re winning!”
