Ask your candidates to agree to the pledge now and help us get racism out of politics.
The Federal election is on May 3, and politicians and candidates are again turning to our communities as scapegoats for decades of policy failure. This election we are asking all election candidates to pledge to be antiracist by actively rejecting racism and discrimination now and throughout their political careers.
Australia has a long and shameful history of racist politics. Politicians have regularly used discriminatory policies and rhetoric to escape accountability and create division for their electoral gain. This election can be different!
Ask your candidates to take the Antiracist pledge so that future governments will commit to creating a country where we are all treated with dignity.
How to ask your candidates to take the pledge:
*Please note - in the interest of privacy we will not share any information with candidates other than your name.
We need your help - during an election campaign, political candidates are most receptive to requests from their constituents. By signing up to send the pledge to your local candidates you are helping our communities to build a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
We acknowledge that we live, work and play on Aboriginal land, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and future. We wish to acknowledge that many of us are beneficiaries of ongoing and historical colonial violence. Sovereignty was never ceded.
