Walk the Walk 2020: A Faith Pilgrimage of Reckoning, Resolve & Love
We invite people of faith, clergy, and faith leaders to publicly demonstrate their commitment to “walk the walk” of Race Reckoning, Resolve & Love.
We will reckon with anti-Blackness that permeates our past and present as a nation and as faith institutions. We will focus on three primary outcomes: RECKON with and repent of personal and structural racism, white supremacy, and anti-Blackness actions and attitudes; RESOLVE to advance racial justice in our faith traditions and nation, through voting, organizing, and advocacy; and REFRAME the faith narrative in this nation as we approach the 2020 election.
Walk with us on Friday, August 28:
Join us at 7:00 a.m at Rivergate City Park, 819 Rivergate Pl, Alexandria, VA 22314 for an 8 mile walk along the Mt. Vernon Trail to Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C. (You can also meet the pilgrims at the Jefferson Memorial at approximately 9:00 a.m. and join the walk to BLM Plaza.) There will be a program from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at BLM Plaza to conclude the pilgrimage. The group will then join the National Action Network Commitment March: Get Your Knee Off Our Necks at the Lincoln Memorial. See the full schedule for the day.
If you plan to organize a walk in your own city or town, please register here.
COVID-19 public health measures will be in place to ensure health and safety of all participants.
We are inviting people of faith, clergy, and leaders to join us for a pilgrimage guided by and accountable to BIPOC faith leaders. We are a coalition supported by these organizations: Faith in Action, Red Letter Christians, Vote Common Good, Greater Things, and the Truth and Conciliation Commission. We are working together to create 2 or 3 primary broad demands for Congress, local governments, and for our faith traditions, denominations, and congregations.
