Right now, workers across West Virginia are worried about their jobs and continuing to provide for their families. With recent mass layoff news out of Weirton, our economy and our fellow workers are facing uncertain futures.
At the same time, the West Virginia Legislature is considering a bill that will slash critical unemployment benefits by capping weekly payments and reducing the duration of benefits.
These benefits are a lifeline that workers have earned through hard work, that should safeguard them when hard times arise through no fault of their own. Cutting unemployment benefits will leave many workers unable to keep their homes or feed their families, in addition to destabilizing the overall economy.
