Examples of points to make in your discussion:
- It is a gross overreach by the government into my rights as a student and as a citizen of the United States. In its current form with the SB 120 language, there are no carve out protections for the free speech of student organizations and if passed would threaten the safety of student groups across the state of Georgia.
- The vague language of the bill means it poses a threat to student’s freedom of speech, leaves many questions around the enforcement of the bill being conducted fairly, and allows legislators to target anything they deem to fall under “DEI”.
- The resources and student organizations offered by our universities have support students, help students develop as professionals, build network of industry professionals, expose students to a variety of perspectives and cultures that allowed them to grow as individuals.
- Passing this bill with SB120 language into law will result in the end of services and professional development programs that promote the creation of the future leaders of this state. Including programs that support veterans, survivors of sexual violence, and low-income students.
- This bill may seriously impact our ability to recruit top students nationwide to attend universities in the state of Georgia, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and may further impact economic growth in the state.
