The Florida Legislature is at it again. Rather than really dealing with the affordable housing and homeowner’s insurance crises, lack of healthcare access, looming environmental crises and the other issues that Floridian’s need help with they are now working to pass ridiculous, unworkable and truly mean spirited immigration bills, just to help the Governor get to the white house.
SB 1718 and HB 1617 are massive bills, while there are some differences the bills seek to:
• Make it felony to transport or house undocumented individuals, even family members
• Create a DNA database for all immigrants
• Track the immigration status of hospital patients
• Restrict local community IDs
• Invalidate out of state driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants
• Remove protections for immigrant victims of crime
And much much more.
Call your Senator and Representative now and tell them to VOTE NO on Senate Bill 1718 and HB 1617.
This is a petty and mean-spirited attack on our friends and neighbors and will cause fear and intimidation in communities across our state.
