The Basic Income Research & Action Lab (BIRAL) is a network of researchers and activists dedicated to analysing and advocating for Basic Income systems and pilots worldwide. By focusing on municipal and regional levels, BIRAL aims to provide valuable insights and tools for political leaders interested in implementing Basic Income schemes in their communities. The network includes members from various organizations and institutions, such as Unconditional Basic Income Europe, Basic Income Earth Network, Universidade Federal Fluminense, Gyeonggi Research Institute, and the Freiburg Institute for Basic Income Studies.

Active members of the Basic Income Research & Action Lab (BIRAL) have been accepted to participate in the upcoming 22nd Basic Income Congress Network Congress, which will take place in Seoul, Korea, from 23 to 26 August 2023.

Among the many activities the BIRAL delegates will undertake there are:

• Presenting the paper "Towards a Municipalist Basic Income", a comparative analysis of three basic income systems implemented in different regions of the world using social currencies: Gyeonggi Basic Income in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Circles in Berlin, Germany, and Marica Basic Income in Marica, Brazil. This happens to be the first official research paper of BIRAL!
• Conducting a series of interviews with mayors, social policy advisors and researchers, with experience in past or present basic income experiments and pilots worldwide, for BIRAL's own "Voices of Basic Income" podcast. The BIEN Congress offers a unique opportunity for this action, given the live presence of relevant key stakeholders, and the podcast provides a platform for the voices of those making basic income a reality on the ground to be heard.

These two actions equally represent and empower the two focus areas of BIRAL, Research and Action, and have both been approved by the Congress team! The participation of the BIRAL delegates in the Congress is therefore only a matter of assuring their capacity to cover their travel and accommodation expenses. This is where you come in!
