Everybody counts! Everybody belongs! 2020 CENSUS

Canvass for the Census!

WHAT'S AT STAKE

1. The southern Central Valley 4 county region has more than 600,000 hard to count people, including large numbers who have been intimidated by the Trump Administration's continual attacks on immigrants

2.  The Census has been manipulated to make a big undercount highly likely-- online submission for the first time, slashed funding for door-to-door "enumerators", half the number of follow up visits, very limited language access (California has more than 60 spoken languages).

3. Census counts determine Federal funding for education, health care, nutrition and housing assistance, infrastructure and more -- for a decade..

  • One person = $20,000
  • 20% Hard To Count undercount = $1.2 billion lost

4.  Census counts determine our state's Congressional representation.  A substantial statewide undercount could cost California 1 or even 2 Congressional seats.

Canvassing is proven effective!

Census Canvassing is the critical first step towards ensuring that everyone gets counted, the region gets its fair share of federal funding, and California's Congressional delegation is protected.

This initiative is part of our partnership with the Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF).   DHF targets cities and towns that were seriously undercounted in 2010 and, as a result, have been receiving a very small fraction of the Federal funding they deserve.

We've been having a great time with the DHF Vecinos!

We are canvassing alongside members of DHF Vecinos Unidos chapters who live and work in the targeted towns.  It's a unique opportunity to learn and make new friends.  With your help, we will ensure that low income working class communities and college students have the information they need to get counted and to help their families and neighbors get counted, too.  The Dolores Huerta Foundation is a California Census 2020 official community based organization.
