We spend a lot of time telling people that their vote matters, that it is our right and responsibility to pick our representatives. Unfortunately, more often than not, politicians get to pick their voters rather than voters picking their politicians. And those politicians very often choose voters based on their own interests, not on the interests of the communities they supposedly represent.
