Take Action: Help Get Vote By Mail Signed Into Law
The New York Early Mail Voter Act passed the state legislature in June.
This bill creates New York’s first Vote By Mail system, allowing any voter to request a mail-in ballot during the early voting period with no excuse needed. Permitted by 35 other states, Vote By Mail is a safe and secure voting option proven to increase election participation - especially in historically disenfranchised communities. Vote By Mail would make a major difference in New Yorkers’ access to the ballot.
However, Governor Hochul has not yet signed the bill into law.
Common Cause New York activists across the state are mobilizing to put pressure on the Governor and encourage her to sign Vote By Mail into law. Whether by making a quick phone call to the Governor’s office, hosting a postcard writing party, writing a letter to the editor, or creating social media content in support of VBM, everyone can make their voice heard. If you’re ready to take action and help bring Vote By Mail to New York, use this toolkit to learn how to get involved!
