Tell Manny Diaz, Jr.: Stop Putting Our Kids At Risk

Your State Rep. Manny Diaz, Jr. wants to send $200 million in tax dollars to for-profit companies out to make a buck off our kids. Tell Diaz that we need to invest in our children's future – not line the pockets of his corporate cronies and campaign donors.

Rep. Manny Diaz, Jr. and FL House Speaker Richard Corcoran are pushing deeply flawed legislation (HB 5105) that aims to dismantle local public schools in our neighborhood – not to help children succeed.

This bill is the greatest expansion in corporate giveaways to companies looking to profit on the backs of our kids. It is unfortunately part of a long-running trend of the legislature giving for-profit companies even greater influence in the state's public education system.

Diaz wants to:

  • Reward shadowy charters operated by for-profit companies (with no oversight or accountability) at the expense of underfunded public schools;
  • Hold for-profit run schools to lower standards by exempting them from nearly all statutes governing public schools – from building codes and teacher certificates, to tort liability and local zoning requirements.

Rep. Manny Diaz, Jr. is putting children even more at risk by placing people in front of our kids who don’t even have to have a high school degree let alone any kind of certification.

This "strategy" may help Diaz pull in more campaign cash, but it fails to invest in educational opportunity for all Florida children – all but guaranteeing an instable economic future for our kids and the state as a whole.
