Dr. Scott Warren stood trial in Tucson Federal Court last week for his humanitarian aid work and currently awaits a verdict. Whether Scott is found guilty or not-guilty, the fact remains that thousands of individuals have died and disappeared in the West Desert of Arizona, including 89 just since Scott’s arrest in January, 2018. Concurrently, the nationwide escalation of attacks on the lives of undocumented people continues. Over 80,000 individuals are incarcerated in detention centers in this very moment and many more live with the threat of deportation daily. We are called in this historical moment to protect the fabric of our communities and defend human kindness.
In response to this reality and a historical verdict, No More Deaths is calling on allied groups and communities around the country to join us in a Day of Action on Friday, June 21st, the longest day of the year, and often one of the deadliest in the Arizona desert. We call on you, as local actors, to organize actions at DHS offices around the country to demand an end to Prevention Through Deterrence and make clear our unwavering commitment to defend human decency.
