Save our Safety Net February 25th Actions
The social safety net is under attack! Not only are there threats to repeal the Affordable Care Act, there are also plans to make major privatization changes to both Medicare and Social Security.
It's time for us to demand action to expand Social Security by lifting the cap so that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share. It is also time to demand that we expand and improve Medicare so that everyone is in it (for life), there are no deductibles or co-pays and prescription drug prices are affordable.
Would you be willing to attend a Medicare for All/Social Security event in your town? If there isn't one, would you be willing to host one? We promise there will be plenty of people at your event because not only will we invite people from our list, other national partner organizations will invite people as well.
Your event can be a simple visibility event with people on a street corner with signs, a Town Hall (with our without your Congress person) or a community meeting about Social Security and Medicare and why they need to be protected.
Tom Price is now head of Health and Human Services; as a Representative he consistently voted to cut Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. This week, when Senate Republicans confirmed Rep. Mick Mulvaney as Trump's budget director they aimed a big gun at Social Security -- despite Trump's campaign promise to never cut it. Mulvaney is co-founder of the House Freedom Caucus, the most extreme element of the Tea Party. He described Social Security as a "Ponzi scheme" and argued that we must "end Medicare as we know it."
