Education is one of our Rules of Road Safety. We believe road user education needs to start at an early age, when behaviors get ingrained and are more likely to become life-long. One city that shares and has embraced this belief is the City of Philadelphia. Through their Vision Zero Philadelphia initiative, they created Safe Routes Philly, a program to bring road user education to Philadelphia schools, starting in the elementary schools. Pete DeCarolis, Safe Routes Philly Coordinator, will be joining us to discuss the origins of the program, what they hope to achieve, and the results and experiences thus far. This is the third event in our series of Conversations based on our Rules of Road Safety as part of our commitment to being an "Allies in Action" partner of USDOT to help implement the National Roadway Safety Strategy.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS EVENT:

  • Local and state politicians
  • Safety advocates - especially those for vulnerable road users
  • State and local transportation agency personnel
  • Community leaders
  • Concerned citizens
  • Educators
