2018 King Day Commemoration & Public Meeting

Start: Sunday, January 14, 2018 2:30 PM

“I choose to identify with the underprivileged. I choose to identify with the poor. I choose to give my life for the hungry. I choose to give my life for those who have been left out… This is the way I’m going. If it means suffering a little bit, I’m going that way… If it means dying for them, I’m going that way.”
–Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

How are you using your legacy to fight for what is right today?

On Sunday, January 14, we will celebrate Dr. King's legacy and examine how we understand and live out his vision today through justice, faith, and power.

We will be lifting up the issues in our community, demanding our city and state officials stand with us on criminal justice reform, protecting and restoring our young people, ensuring economic equity in communities of color, and re-establishing our covenant and commitment to fight for the rights of those returning home from incarceration. Additionally, we will be looking to the future of a New Poor People’s Campaign.

Join us for this historic day of worship and action in partnership with SOUL, Trinity United Church of Christ, BlackRoots Alliance, Workers Center for Racial Justice, Action Now Institute, A Just Harvest, SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana, Assata's Daughters and more!
