What: 350Fairfax September Virtual General Meeting

When: September 5, 2024 Virtual General Meeting, 7:30 - 8:30 PM

Details:  Matthew Adams, the Director of the Sustainability, Engineering, and Environmental Compliance for Fairfax County’s Solid Waste Management Program, is our speaker.  He will tell us about the zero waste strategies being presented for Fairfax County Board approval in February of 2025 and what community activists can do to support our transition to a more sustainable future.

Matthew reports that "the goal of 90% diversion from landfill and incineration by 2040 is a big lift for the community so we are proposing large scale changes that will drastically shift the way waste is managed." He will discuss several options that are under consideration and how we can help get to zero waste

As the  Director of the Sustainability, Engineering, and Environmental Compliance for Fairfax County’s Solid Waste Management Program, Matthew is responsible for all aspects of Fairfax County’s 1.2 million residents’ solid waste. He is the lead for the 20 year Solid Waste Management Planning effort and its accompanying Zero Waste Plan, a champion for public works and a strong advocate for the great things local government can do for the community.
