’48 Palestinians: Popular Resistance for Palestinian Unity

Start: 2021-06-24 12:00:00 UTC Eastern Daylight Time (US & Canada) (GMT-04:00)

This is a virtual event

Palestinians who carry Israeli citizenship have played crucial roles in mobilizations in Sheikh Jarrah, where Palestinians face illegal home expulsions. Last month, they organized a major day of strike for dignity and unity for all Palestinians as Israel bombed Gaza. They have also helped to make Palestinian activism visible in Palestinian cities like Nazareth, as in the mural above. The new organization Addar, based in Nazareth, works to strengthen understandings of Palestinian unity for all Palestinians. Come hear from leaders of this urgent activism!

In this seminar, we will hear from two leaders in Nazareth, Aiah Haj Odeh and Rula Nasr-Mazzawi, a lawyer and a grassroots leader. They will talk to us about the role of Palestinian activism in recent events as well as the legal structures of apartheid that impact Palestinians who hold Israeli citizenship.

Moderated by Amahl Bishara, associate professor of anthropology at Tufts University and author of Driving While Palestinian and other works on the relationship between Palestinians who hold Israeli citizenship and those living in the occupied territory of the West Bank.
