A Community Dialogue on Whiteness and Racism
Start: Monday, April 04, 2016• 6:30 PM
End: Monday, April 04, 2016• 9:30 PM
The Undoing Racism Austin White Caucus invites you to the first of a series of community dialogues on Whiteness and Racism, launching on the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These conversations will allow people from all backgrounds to learn about the history of race and racism in Austin, and to share experiences.
These conversations are intended to begin to grow and large anti-racist network in Austin focused on building solidarity and taking action for a stronger, more just city.
We hope we will all leave having accomplished some goals:
- A better understanding of the different types of racism – individual, institutional, systemic cultural
- Access to a community of people for ongoing support in our work to address internalized oppression (particularly white superiority)
- A deeper understanding of local Austin history of legislated racism, current patterns of disparity that continue in Austin today
- An initial or beginning conversation about accountability and organizing in multiracial communities
- Opportunities to join an anti-racist network of people and local groups who are committed to showing up when needed to confront racial injustice and demand systemic change
