Join us on Wednesday the 3rd of February at 19.00 GMT for the fourth in a series of 5 weekly Wednesday webinars. We, the Irish Chapter of World Beyond War, will interview a number of people who have been thinking about war. About who wins and who loses? How it is waged and financed. How it impacts the civilian populations of the world. How it contributes to human misery. Its effects on the environment. All of that and more. And how it doesn't have to be like this. The series will be on at 19.00-19.45 (GMT) and start on January the 13th and run for the following five Wednesdays concluding on February the 10th.
This week's conversation with Suad Aldarra and Yaser Alashqar looks at militarism and human displacement. The human cost of war, persecution and environmental devastation are evident today in the forced displacement of more than 70 million people. The response to this has been militarised borders and a climate of fear and hostility rather than of solidarity and generosity. In this session Suad Aldarra from Syria and Yaser Alashqar from Palestine will talk about their experiences and perspectives on forced migration and how a focus on human security can make a real difference.
